If you’ve updated a WordPress page or post but the changes aren’t visible on your website, don’t worry. In most cases, the update was saved successfully, but cached versions of your site may still be displaying older content.
Step 1: Verify Your Changes Were Saved
After editing a page or post:
- Click Update or Publish in WordPress.
- Wait for the confirmation message indicating the page has been updated successfully.
- View the page on your website.
If the changes still do not appear, continue with the steps below.
Step 2: Clear Website Cache
Many websites use caching to improve performance. Cached content may continue to display an older version of the page even after an update.
If Your Website Uses cPanel Cache Manager
- Log in to cPanel.
- Open Cache Manager.
- Select your website.
- Click Purge Cache or Clear Cache.
- Wait a few moments and reload your page.
Step 3: Perform a Hard Browser Refresh
Your web browser may also be storing a cached version of the page.
Windows
Press:
Mac
Press:
This forces your browser to download the latest version of the page instead of using the cached copy.
Step 4: Test in an Incognito or Private Window
To determine whether the issue is related to browser cache:
Google Chrome
- Click the three-dot menu.
- Select New Incognito Window.
Microsoft Edge
- Click the three-dot menu.
- Select New InPrivate Window.
Safari
- Select File > New Private Window.
Visit the updated page in the private browsing window. If your changes appear there, the issue is likely browser caching.
Step 5: Check for DNS Propagation
If your website recently experienced:
- DNS changes
- Domain transfers
- Hosting migrations
- Nameserver updates
It may take time for those changes to be recognized across the internet.
DNS propagation can take up to 24 hours or longer in some cases.
During this period, visitors in different locations may see different versions of the site.
Common Causes of Delayed Updates
- Browser cache
- Website cache
- Hosting server cache
- CDN cache (such as Cloudflare)
- DNS propagation after website or domain changes
