1. Does everybody on your list have a prior relationship with your business?

If the answer is “no” then get rid of the list, or the people on the list that you don’t have a relationship with. If the person doesn’t have a prior relationship with your business, they’re not going to be expecting your email. This will hurt your list. Without a prior relationship, many of the recipients will mark your message as spam. Those spam designations will then turn around and hurt the sender score of the servers you send from, which will make it harder for you to get your messages delivered due to blacklist reports.

2. Did you purchase, rent, or lease the list from a third party?

We can’t let you send to that list from the Orlando Web Wizard server. You won’t have success sending it. The people on a third-party list do not have a prior business relationship with your business. Sending to a purchased list will get flagged for spam and ultimately reduce your email delivery.

3. Will the people on the list be expecting (not surprised) by your email?

If the answer is “no” then it’s time to do some inbound marketing to build yourself a clean and quality list of recent opt-ins.

4. Have you emailed these contacts within the last 12 months?

Twelve months is too long. Chances are people on your list already forgot about you and they will be surprised by your message. That means they’ll mark it as spam, which means your delivery rates will drop, and get your list gets on the email server blacklist.
